Endings and Beginnings

In the life of man there are many endings, but there is always a new beginning.

At birth, life in the womb comes to an end, and independent life begins. When a child goes to kindergarten, life as an infant ends as the child begins student life.

Graduation from kindergarten is followed by primary school, then middle school, and later, high school. After high school the student goes on to the university. Graduation means a new member for society. To graduate is an ending, which is a new starting point in life.

Marriage marks an ending for singles, but new life begins for the couple. Little by little, people grow up from youth to middle age, then old age. Finally, life ends when they die.

For persons without faith, death is considered the end. However, that is not the case. Dying is most important, for it is the beginning of eternal life.

Our lives are like students getting ready for a test. To graduate, they attend school to become outstanding members of society. In the same way, our life is preparation for eternal life. At death, a person graduates from this world, and really begins to live. A life of happiness in heaven or suffering in hell depends on how people spend their lives in this world.

We don't know when we will die, but we should always strive to lead a life worthy of heaven.

「終わり」と「始まり」

　私たちの一生の間には、たくさんの終わりがありますが、一つ一つの時期が終わると必ず新しい時期が始まります。

　人は生まれると母親の胎内での生活が終わり、独立した人生が始まります。幼稚園に入る時、家での幼児としての生活が終わり、集団の一員として勉強の生活が始まります。

　幼稚園を卒園すると小学校に入り、小学校から中学校へ、中学校から高校へ、また、高校から大学へと進みます。そして大学を卒業すると社会人としての人生が始まります。一つ一つの卒業は、ある時期の終わりであると同時に新しい出発点になります。

　人が結婚する時、独身生活が終わり、夫か妻としての生活が始まります。人々は少しずつ年を取り、青年時代から中年へ、中年から高齢の時代へと進みます。そして最後にみな死んでこの世での人生は終わります。

　信仰をもっていない人々は、死が完全な終わりだと思うでしょうが、実際はそうではありません。死ぬ時は一番大事な終わりで、永遠の人生への始まりなのです。

　今の人生は学校生活と比べることができます。つまり、どちらも準備の生活です。卒業後、立派な社会人としての生活を送ることができるために学生たちは学校へ行って勉強します。同じように、今の人生は死後の永遠の人生の準備期間です。死ぬ時、人はこの世での人生を卒業し、本当の人生が始まります。その永遠の人生の間、天国の幸せか地獄の苦しみかを体験するということは、今の人生の間にどのような生活を送るかによって決まります。いつ天に召されるか分かりませんが、いつも天国に入る資格があるような生活を送るように努めたいと思います。
